More gorgeous Christmas stockings! Today it’s the turn of Fairytale and Owls to find a space on our blog. Each of these two designs is in the larger of our two stocking shapes.
Let’s start with Fairytale. This is a really joyful Christmas stocking as there’s so much going on. There’s a rocking horse and a toy fort, a toy elephant and a dog on wheels, and a rocket taking off into a starry sky. Santa’s there in the middle and beneath the lion, robot, Queen and teddy bear the Christmas tree is lit up ready for the big day.
Owen’s Fairytale stocking looks wonderful made up in raspberry red velvet. If you want to stay with traditional colours for your stocking, a blue or green velvet or cotton is just as effective.
Each Jolly Red Christmas stocking kit comes with a full colour printed canvas and reference chart, and a generous supply of Anchor tapestry wool, needle and instructions for stitching the design. The name panel is worked from a chart (again, complete with instructions for planning your panel) which you can either use as it is, adapt, or ignore if you’d prefer not to add a name on your stocking. There are no rules!
This year’s Fairytale stockings have had a real variety of name panels. They’ve been stitched with no name, and at the other extreme the longest name we’ve ever seen on a stocking, longer even than Christopher – Rosadandelion! That’s a first, and well done to Louise for fitting it in!
Here’s a close up of Louise’s stocking. We made it up with bottle green velvet for edging, hanging loop and backing, and a golden yellow lining.
Finally, our new Owls Christmas stocking. We brought this design out very late last year and were amazed to see any at all in the workshop. These first two look stunning, so will inspire anyone just starting their own Owls canvas.
For those of you who like to stitch the smaller boot shaped Christmas stockings, watch out for our next new design which will be a boot shaped version of the Owls stocking. We can’t wait for it to be ready!
