You’ve finished your tapestry and now it’s time for the next stage, the making up. If zips and piping take you out of your comfort zone, help is at hand with our popular making up service. We have a team of skilled upholsterers who can make up your work for you, with fabric from our three ranges: a textured cotton range, a sturdy wool mix, and a velvet range.
Today we’re concentrating on the velvet fabrics, which add a sumptuous finishing touch to your tapestry. If you like the idea of velvet, we hope you’ll find just the right colour/s here. When sending your tapestry in for our popular making up service, please include a note of the shade/s you’d like us to use.
We have greens, from pale to bottle green:
We made up Agnes’s Arts and Crafts Tiles using bottle green JRG03 for border and backing, and maroon piping.
On to blues:
This little Home and Heart tapestry from our starter kit range was finished with a blue border and contrast red piping.
Similarly, this Union Jack Russells tapestry looks wonderful with navy border and backing, and contrast red piping.
Side view of the Union Jack Rusells tapestry:
We have two ‘golds’, Old Gold JRY01 is more of a faded gold so well suited to Camelcade. Mustard JRY02 really is more mustardy and works very well with the colours in Autumn Leaves. The Brick shade JRY04 shown here works well with lots of our designs, including Autumn Leaves.
Ba-Ba-Bloom with moss green piping, and Ba-Ba-Birds with orange piping:
Moving on to maroon, reds and purples:
This lovely Indian Elephants tapestry was made up in the Mauve JRP05 fabric:
You can really have some fun if you want to choose a contrast piping for your tapestry. This Kitten Caboodle has orange piping and bright red backing, which seem to echo the playfulness of the design.
More in the red/pink range, including new Rose JRP07 which works well as a bridge between pink and red.
Mali’s Butterflies Sampler, made up in pale pink velvet JRP08.
Finally, we announce the arrival of two new greys – Elephant JRW03 and Weimaraner JRW04, shown here with black and cream.
The fabric world is constantly changing and fabrics are occasionally discontinued so please do get in touch to check that your chosen fabric is still available, particularly if the tapestry you’ve stitched is going to be part of a series and you’d like them to match.
Fabric swatches We are happy to send swatches of fabric to UK addresses, and can advise over the phone – on 01460 281111 – if you aren’t sure about colours for your tapestry, even if it isn’t a Jolly Red design. We see lots of different designs in our workshop, particularly the Ehrman designs, and often know colours and fabrics that will work well.
Posting your parcel When sending your tapestry in to us, do use a Signed For method so that you’ll know that it’s arrived safely – or be able to track it in case it’s held up anywhere en route. You don’t necessarily need to send it in a tube. We encourage recycling so re-use a jiffy bag if you have one to hand, that’ll be fine.

That’s it, so happy stitching if you’re finishing off a tapestry and we look forward to making it up into a beautiful family heirloom for you.
One thing, before you go…do remember to sign up for our tapestry talk newsletters if you’d like to hear about our new designs as they appear, and receive secret treats and discounts. We send newsletters roughly once a month, and only send them when we have something to say.
This is why we’re asking: On May 25th new legislation will come into force preventing us from sending you any of our exciting news unless we can show that you actively signed up for our mailings. If you’re already on our mailing list you might prefer to pop over a quick email to me at email@example.com saying “continue to send newsletters” and that’ll be enough to satisfy the powers that be.
Best wishes as always,
