It’s time for an update about our Coffee With Friends tapestry which we launched last year in time for Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. We’ve had some gorgeous completed tapestries in for making up, and we’re sharing some of them today. They may inspire you to snap up a Coffee With Friends kit or canvas, or to start stitching (or finish) your tapestry if you already have one.
Today’s stitchy spotlight is on Hilmary and Heather, who together sent in a total of six Coffee With Friends tapestries for our Making Up Service. Heather and Hilmary each personalised their tapestries and the results were gorgeous.
Hilmary’s cushions, pictured below, are the second set that she’s stitched for her daughters, having stitched each of them a Mugs and Hugs a few years ago. Each tapestry has been personalised with initials and the year of stitching (2016). Some use the complete pack of wools as provided with the Coffee With Friends kit, while others have slight changes or different colours altogether. For anyone wondering if there’s space in a small design to add initials, Hilmary’s tapestries show that there’s always room if you look for it!
To link the designs through their making up, Hilmary chose plain cotton fabric borders, contrast piping and polka dot backings. The cushions look wonderful, all ‘similar but different.’
Side view, below, of some of Hilmary’s cushions, showing off her great colour choices:

Now over to Heather, who had the original idea of extending the borders of her Coffee With Friends tapestry to make a teacosy. She used cross stitch threads and a multitude of stitches and, like Hilmary, has incorporated the year of stitching (2016) into her design. We love how she’s stitched her own dogs on the mugs in the teacosy, and added extra touches and embellishments.
We made up Heather’s teacosy using a dark lavender cotton fabric, with a red polka dot lining.
A Coffee With Friends canvas or kit is a lovely gift or a treat for yourself to stitch at home or take on holiday. If you order online, use code ‘canvas‘ at the checkout if you want the canvas on its own, and it’ll halve the price of the complete kit. We donate £5 from the sale of each canvas and complete kit to Macmillan.
Fundraising Update We are very grateful for the donation which Hilmary made when she sent in her tapestries, bringing the amount raised so far in 2016/17 to just over £1,000.
A big thank you to everyone who has bought a kit or a canvas, or a raffle ticket to support a fundraiser. Remember Valerie and Ann’s wonderful raffle?
Happy stitching, and please do send us pictures of a Coffee With Friends kit framed, made into a picture or as a work in progress. We always love to see!
