Christmas Stockings

Our Christmas stocking tapestries are made up all year round in our Somerset workshop! We make up the Christmas stockings using either a heavy weight cotton fabric or a cotton velvet, with a lighter weight cotton for the lining. We put a layer of wadding between the lining and the outer fabric (front and back). The stockings have a border around them which is turned at the top to create the hanging loop.

The most popular Christmas stocking fabric colours are the rich, traditional ones: dark red, bright red, navy or bottle green, but we do have requests to make up stockings in many other combinations. We stock many non-traditional colours, so please call us or email if you would like to discuss other options. We have put together a blog post, with helpful pictures.

For further inspiration, we have many albums of completed stockings on Jolly Red’s Facebook page, which you can easily link to from the home page of our website. Remember to ‘Like’ our page for more updates.

Before you post your tapestry From early September, tapestries arrive thick and fast in our Somerset workshop. It is most helpful if you are able to include details of your chosen fabric for your Christmas stocking, both the outer fabric and the lining.

Do you have a deadline for Christmas stockings? The making up process is quite complex as all tapestries need to be dampened, stretched and dried (sometimes more than once) before their backings and linings can be added. This takes longer in autumn and winter than at other times of the year.

We do our utmost to return your Christmas stocking well before Christmas Eve. For these reasons, we recommend sending your finished tapestries to us throughout the year rather than waiting until October. Let’s not even mention Royal Mail’s post strikes of 2022…who knows if there will be more this year!

Please send your Christmas stockings to us throughout the year to avoid possible disappointment.

Before you send in your work – a quick checklist before posting:
